I planned a visit to London to look at everything McQueen. I created a list of places and how to get there to make sure i didnt miss a single place out.
Firstly I visited the Alexander McQueen head office.
I was so lucky to get the chance to get shown around the studio. It was incredible and the people were so helpful, it definitely was a day to remember. I loved the fact that i was able to see comparisons to how I work and to how they work, with mood boards and experimenting of materials. It was definitely inspirational.
Next stop was to Somerset house where the Dazed and Confused exhibition was being held I knew the was a section on McQueen so I went to check it out
There was 3 projection screens with a variety of images rotating through each one. This butterfly piece above stood out most to me. I love the colours and the way it was almost one with the person head.
I then went to Harrods to see what was being sold there.
They had a beautiful jewellery counter where my boyfriend brought me my Christmas present.
Harvey Nichols was the next place. They had a great Collection of clothing and shoes on the 1st Floor and on the ground floor had a variety of jewellery.
Next, Alexander McQueen Shop on Old Bond street. It was mind blowing, i had no idea how big the inside was, it consisted of two floors. The window displaces were beautiful with dresses that looked like the torso was a mosaic.
I then ventured onto Selfridges, I really liked how Alexander McQueen had its own mini shop inside.
In the centre of Selfridges where the escalators were situated they had some interesting lighting that hung from the top floor down every level to the ground floor and on each floor they had a singular light that spun ever so quickly and made a low pitched wurring noise as it span. It made you stop and watch them for 5 minutes they were fascinating.
I also very much liked the window displaces, each was minimalistic with colour, using different shades of white, silver and blue for that wintry Christmas feel.
Finally, Liberty's I had not been to either Liberty's or Selfridges before. I loved the beautiful Tudor decor that not only wa on the outside of the building but ran throughout the whole of the buildings. There was also, this stunning lighting that was a layer of cream coloured circles that created this beautiful vooumous 3 tiered pieces. which was very elegant and reminded me of scales, a very textured pieces. Covering the whole of the piece was a light fringing which softened the blocking of the circles.
It was a very productive, inspiring and surprising day. :)
